We are delighted to have BA Fine Art Lecturer Dr. John Walter kick off this year's series of artists' talks for the Fine Art Research Unit (FARU). All welcome.
John Walter is a visual artist whose transdisciplinary practice addresses the transmission of images, ideas, and viruses. Rooted in painting and drawing, his work expands across sculpture, performance, installation, video, animation, sound, AI and extended reality, often approaching complex scientific and cultural ideas with humour and 'shonky' production values. He is a serial collaborator.
He trained at Chelsea College of Art and Design, the Ruskin School of Fine Art Oxford, and the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. He completed a PhD in Architecture at the University of Westminster.
Recent exhibitions and publications include 'The Creative Potential of Archival Boundaries' Drawing Matter; 'Blizard Buffet' Tower Tavern, London; ‘Tanuki’s Beaujolais Bar’ Swansea Performance Festival; 'The School of Meme Engineering' Anatomy of an art School, Aberdeen; ‘Disruptive Painting’ Stiwdio Griffith, Swansea; 'Connecting Threads' GPS Gallery; ‘Exquisite, Imaginary Cure’ Annexe Gallery, Glasgow School of Art; ‘Tarot – Origins and Afterlives’ Warburg Institute, London.
The FARU Talks programme has been an important part of the Fine Art Research Unit and Art School Calendar for over 15 years. It is a discursive platform aimed at opening and sharing a range of artistic practices and practice-based research to students and staff across the University and the wider public.
